Ride Guidelines

A ACPSC, ASTM, or SNELL approved helmet is required on all HHBC rides. Recommended safety items are: rear view mirror, a rear flashing light, and bright visible clothing.

There are 6 ride pace categories:

A. 19 – 23 mph average, our fastest paced group ride, Be prepared to maintain this pace for 25 to 40 miles on a weeknight ride and 60 to 100 miles on weekends. Stops typically are few and short.

B. 16 – 19 mph average. A fast recreational ride. The ride distances will be   similar to the “A” group, with a few short stops.

C.    12 –16 mph average, a pace for all age groups of enthusiasts. The riding will be less competitive and more social. Groups will tend to stick together more and there will be more opportunities for regrouping.

D.     10 –13 mph average. A very social pace with frequent stops. These rides are for both experienced and new riders that are familiar with the basics of cycling on the open road and in groups. Distances vary from 20 to 35 miles per ride and there is often a meal or sightseeing involved..

ND.   No designated speed. These rides are oriented family groups and new riders to the sport. The Pace will be dictated by the ride leader and the group.

DOWR - Depending On Weather and Riders. Usually for off season or winter rides. When listed as “DOWR” this indicates an “open ride” situation. There may not be a ride leader, route, or distance assigned, just a start time and place.  It will count as a club ride if on the calendar.
