UNDERSTANDING ROUTE MARKINGS:
All road markings should be larger than an 8.5 by 11 inch piece of paper. That means if a regular piece of notebook paper covers up your road mark, your Dan Henry, S, W, N, A, or man from Mars mark is too small.
By convention:
Open Dan Henry’s mark the clockwise direction of the route.
Closed Dan Henry’s mark the counter clockwise direction of the route.
Always Mark after an intersection.
Always Mark before a turn.
One mark at the turn, and at least two (preferably three) marks farther back to allow for adjusting for the change in direction, especially for our faster riding colleagues.
Mark any really bad holes or other road hazards.
